IACLD Report at the 16th International and 22nd National Congress on Quality Improvement in Clinical Laboratory Services (April 29 – May 2, 2025)
The Iranian Association of Clinical Laboratory Doctors (IACLD) organized the 16th International and 22nd National Congress on Quality Improvement in Clinical Laboratory Services from April 29 to May 2, 2025, at the Milad Tower Conference Center in Tehran. This event was supported by international scientific organizations, including IFCC, CLSI, APFCB, TBS, EFLM, and ILAC.
Congress Objectives and Achievements
The Congress aimed to enhance productivity, quality, and knowledge synergy in the field of clinical laboratories in Iran. The presence of prominent national and international speakers and companies, along with the participation of thousands of laboratory professionals, representative of regulator body and relevant organizations, associations, and stakeholders, provided an excellent opportunity for knowledge exchange, showcasing new scientific and technical achievements, and professional discussions.
Panels and Workshops
The congress featured 23 main topics and 44 specialized workshops. In the accreditation workshops, the IACLD accreditation body addressed the following topics:
- - ISO 15189:2022 requirements and comparison with the 2012 edition
- - Review of changes in ILAC-IACLD approaches regarding verification, validation, uncertainty, and biological reference intervals
- - Ensuring the validity of examination results through internal quality control, external quality assessment, and inter-laboratory comparisons
- - Approaches related to calibration and metrological traceability
- - Management of non-conformities and corrective actions from the perspective of the accreditation body and medical laboratories
- - Gap analysis and transition of laboratory management systems from ISO 15189:2012 to ISO 15189:2022
- - Documentation and management system
- - Special brainstorming session with accredited and applicants medical laboratories, IACLD assessors and technical experts, and the IACLD accreditation body.
Special Brainstorming Session
In the special brainstorming session, Dr. Bayat, the IACLD accreditation Director, presented a report on the AB's activities. The following topics were discussed:
- Accredited laboratories Expectations for maximum support from the regulator body
- Providing financial incentives such as tax discounts for accredited laboratories
- To encourage and motivate laboratories to join accreditation networks, various strategies can be employed. These include financial incentives, enhancement of professional credibility, improvement of service quality, and access to educational and technical resources.
- Offering a discount to applicant and accredited laboratory for accreditation services
- Supporting the growth and development of the accreditation body
- Enhancing and expanding the assessors pool
- Developing training activities
- Continuing the harmonization of assessment activities
- Selecting more suitable times and venues for holding accreditation panels and workshops in future congresses and allocating more time
- Encouraging accredited and applicant laboratories to collectively pursue their expectations
- Accredited laboratories recommend other laboratories to join the accreditation network
- All accredited laboratories unanimously believe that the role and effects of accreditation on laboratory promotion, improving service quality, and laboratory productivity have been very positive, and have resulted in patient and physician satisfaction, as well as accredited laboratory personnel and managers, and added value to the laboratories.
Information and Logistical Activities
The executive team of the IACLD accreditation body, in line with other activities during the congress, provided services and disseminated information at the accreditation booth of the body and also between sessions.
Information in the form of booklets, posters, stands, illustrated reports of the activities and achievements of the body, brochures containing surveys of assessors, executive and laboratory officials and colleagues of the body were provided to the clients and participants. Also, by showing teasers and films related to accreditation and surveys of accredited laboratories, an effort was made to provide the latest news and information to the audience and clients as much as possible.
World Accreditation Day 2025
In the IACLD accreditation body's booklet, in addition to reporting on the body's activities and its position in the international accreditation network, information and a poster regarding World Accreditation Day and the ILAC-IAF slogan for 2025, "Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)," were included. On the occasion of World Accreditation Day and the 2025 slogan, IACLD discussed and described the role of accreditation in empowering small and medium-sized medical laboratories and the accreditation body's approach in this context. IACLD considers its commitment to this cause and support for these laboratories as one of its missions.
