IACLD Announcement on the Necessity of Transitioning Medical Laboratory Management Systems to the New Edition of ISO 15189:2022
the ISO 15189:2022 standard was published on December 6, 2022, replacing the 2012 edition. A three-year transition period was designated from the date of publication, and by December 2025, the 2012 edition of this standard will be withdrawn.
Accordingly, medical laboratories that have adopted this standard for establishment, implementation, and monitoring within their organizational structure and wish to continue receiving accreditation services from this IACLD shall take the necessary steps to comply with and transition their management system to the ISO 15189:2022 edition, considering the withdrawal date of the 2012 edition. At the end of the period, accreditation of a facility to ISO 15189:2012 will no longer be recognized and valid under the ILAC arrangement.
In order to ensure the implementation of this transition policy, IACLD defined the following transition timelines:
- From the beginning of 1404 in the Persian calendar, IACLD will not accept new applications as ISO 15189:2012.
- From the beginning of 1404 in the Persian calendar, IACLD will conduct all new applicants of medical laboratory assessments as per the new standard ISO 15189:2022
- All IACLD-accredited labs shall take the required actions as outlined and submit the documents to IACLD by June 19, 2025 (30 Khordad 1404). This is essential to facilitate further steps in the transition of their accreditation to ISO 15189:2022.
